Exam Essay Question # 10

10. How do you think George’s life would change if Lenny wasn’t mentally disadvantage?

In the book Of Mice and Men. There two main characters George and Lenny. Lenny is George’s mentally challenge counter part that always seem to be getting them in trouble. But also Lenny seem to be the reason for their economic income.
I think that if Lenny wasn’t mentally challenge George would never been kicked out of Weeds, placing them in the situation they are in now. In Chapter 1 George talks of things he could have if Lenny wasn’t around. Such as a women, 50 dollar to spent on anything he wanted. But the reason George says he can’t have these thins is cause he is dumb. I think that George would be able to have these things if he wasn’t mental challenge. I also believe that George wouldn’t even been stuck with Lenny in the first place. Instead of having too worry about someone else he wouldn’t have to worry about anyone but George. Lenny is George source of money making. George life would also become more difficult because he wouldn’t have Lenny strength to depend upon. He was stronger and faster then any worker. Making life harder George. Not saying that he wouldn’t be able to provide for himself but the money he usually make would be cut in half. Without Lenny being metal challenge for the whole book would change. George would be able to have all the things he mention in Chapter 1. Also his life would be a little harder. He doesn’t have the work force he had when Lenny was around, even if he only working to feed one mouth.

Of Mice and Men Exam # 7-9 ( Between the line)

7. In chapter 3 George says “ Ain’t nothing to it as long it don’t take no figuring . he can’t think of nothing to do himself but sure can take orders”, about Lenny. What does this make think about George and how he view Lenny?

When George said this statement about Lenny he was talking to Slim about Lenny. But he was saying it as if he was so proud of Lenny. Not as if he was trying find something that he was good at too cover the fact he was dumb. But he was saying it like look what he can do, he may not be bright but he sure can work his heart out. Some what the same way a child tell there mother they just went to the bathroom by there self for the first time. So I think that George is proud of Lenny like a big brother is proud of the little brother. It may seem by first reading it George is just with Lenny cause he is such a hard worker but if you read what he say after that George talk about how nice he is and how he use to tease him but stopped. So this help me think George actually see Lenny as a little brother.

8. Why do you think Curtin keep suggesting Candy to shoot his dog? How would you handle the situation?

Curtin suggest shooting Candy dog because he so old, and isn’t any use anymore. He said that the dog doesn’t have any fun anymore what the use of keeping around, and he stinks. Candy says I wish someone would try to shoot me once they say I’m too old and not of use anymore. I agree with Candy just cause the dog is old and is not needed doesn’t mean you should kill it. If someone was to tell me ok Dom it time to put on down I would be so furious. If the dog is so old why not wait for it to die its self. That way Candy is able to be with his dog till the end. As a person we are animals are selves but treat a dog as a tool and when no longer need we shoot them. Image if that was also done with humans.

9. What do you think about the statement George made. “ Guy don’t need no since to be nice fellow. Seem to me, sometimes it work the other way around. Take a real smart guy and he ain’t hardly ever a nice fellow! Do you agree with what George said? Why?

Yes! I agree with George statement I think the smarter you are the more you are worry about other people. You place this guard saying I better not be too friendly are I might be taken advantage of or something. Causing you to be mean , non- trusting to others. Un like Lenny he doesn’t think like that he figure if you are alright with George, your alright with me. So he is gradually a nice person to most people. When your real smart you sometimes place yourself above others. Most of the time if you feel someone is not up to pare with you or smarter then you look down upon them. When your not that bright you have no one to look down upon. You have no care in the world about someone you will treat them all the same.

Safety 1st At Constitution High School

They say the second safest place from home, should be school. Here at Constitution High school principal Dr. Davison says “ That safety a major priority at Con High.” But sadly this isn’t the case for some of the students at Constitution High School. In the second year of our high school being open. A student had sneaked a bb gun onto school premises. It brought concern among the parents of the students. So to tackle the issue, and refill the trust parents had that their children was safe. Dr. Davison place metals detectors in the student’s lobby and issue morning bag checking by security.

Up roar! Among the students began.

“ This don’t make sense. If I’m running 2 minutes late , I ‘m still have to worry about getting check at the door. Taking away from my 2 minutes I had to be on time.”

Copper,20Malik graduating class 2011

Students feel as a though that being check at the door away from time, and causes them too be late. Which if late 3 times you are given a detention . Bag checking takes time causing us to suffer other consequences such as being late. Students have other obligations to fill, then to be bother by security.

One student “Fatima Joshua” states she feels that “This is a violation of our constitutional rights. I mean we are Constitution High School".

Students argue that our school is base on the constitutional but we are violated our 4th amendment rights. When our privacy is violated by bag searching. Personal items that you may not want expose too public eyes are relieved. But safety come first at Con High.

So what is the metal detectors here for. If the principal place them there to make the school for everyone. Why is the students so upset by the jester. Dr. Davison made to keep parents out of concern. Does this violate our rights or does safety come first at Con High.

ROMERO 3A: AFRICAN AMERICAN POET ESSAY

Oh mother, mother where is the happiness? As children when we are hurt or in pain our basic instinct is too call out “ Mother” or “ I want my Mommmmmmyyyy!” Gwendolyn Brooks brings back this basic instinct, to express the sorrow of a woman, losing her husband to war in “ Sonnet Ballad.” Bringing all the qualities needed to catch my attention. When reading I caught a personal connection that reminded me of my life. Sadness, a oh! Wwwooooww!! Awwww!!! Feeling I get every time I read a sentence. Makes you day dream , a movie screen of images fly from your brain. One of the reasons, this poem speaks to me, the personal connection. The woman in “Sonnet Ballad” talks of her lover going off to war. People in my family haven been in the military, and I know what it is like for a person, important to leave. One line in Sonnet Ballad was “When he went walking grandly out that door.” I remember love ones leaving. Emotional scars are left unhealed until, they return. Can’t help but wonder the challenges they face, the chances of him not coming back. I had been through the same simulation and its hard not to wonder if death will over come. Death! Questioning whether your love is true or untrue. Brings sadness when you read it, the repetition of Oh mother, mother where is the happiness? Oh mother, mother where is the happiness? If the character poses such a question, there must not be any happiness at all.
“What I can use an empty heart-cup for.”“He won't be coming back here any more.”“Some day the war will end, but, oh, I knew”“When he went walking grandly out that door”“That my sweet love would have to be untrue.”
Each line becoming a stepping ladder of sadness, you feel her heart be broken, and see him walking out the door off to war. She doesn’t want her love to be untrue. She is not asking for her happiness to drift away. So she must ask that person. That person who we have grown up to call too when we are in sorrow times, our mother. Every line you read projects images. “When he went walking grandly out that door”, I see a tall man walking proudly out the door, and a woman watching him. “Would have to court Coquettish death.” I see man fighting for his life, a shadow which represent death chasing him. As a reader I wonder will it catch him. “Possessive arms and beauty (of a sort) Can make a hard man hesitate--and change. And he will be the one to stammer, "Yes." I can see this man broken and weaken , letting death come and whisper in his ear, “Will you sub-come” and this man says “Yes.” after reading the end of the poem. Also movie has just end in my mind, and a audience applauding. Qualities of a great poem is what you get when reading, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sonnet Ballad. So if your in search for a good poem read Gwendolyn Brooks, Sonnet Ballad. Sonnet ballad contains a personal connection. A feel of sadness, that make you pity but understand her at the same time. Images that have you looking one way, while trying look the other. Because your not able to the believe what you just saw. If you find any poems that caught your attention the way this one did mine, the be sure too share them.

NHD Reflection

This year in NHD my topic was  Chrisophter Columbus. My group and I chose to do a performance.  The reason  we chosen to do this topic for the theme Individuals in history.

We came upon the topic of Columbus, when we was watching this documentary on him, on history channel. At first we wasn't sure on who to do, we had other people in mind such as Fidel Castro, JFK, and Sideny Poiter.

This year NHD compare to the last year didn't run as smoothly. The hardest thing about this year had to be the research and finding a way to do a performance on him. my group and I keep throwing ideas but it didn't seem like we would get one, until we came up with one. We decided to set up classroom scene to introduce him and transition into a boat scene explain his legacy. I believe that this year play, idea was better but performance wise wasn't.
